Calum Martineau
Hi, my name is Calum. I’m a 19-year-old freeride skier based in Wānaka, New Zealand. I was born and raised in Wellington, where I was lucky to squeeze in a week of skiing each year. Everything changed when I was 14 and my family moved south to the mountain town of Wānaka, a place that allowed me to ski every weekend throughout winter. I began to progress quickly, and my passion for the sport grew even stronger.
From 2021 to 2023, I trained with the TC Freeride Team under coaches Ben Richards and Sam Lee. During this time, I competed in the New Zealand Junior Freeride Tour (NZJFT), earning podium finishes at both The Remarkables and Mount Olympus. These seasons were where I truly discovered my passion for pushing my limits and challenging myself against some of the best young skiers in the country. As I spent more time in the sport, I realised I wanted to move toward the coaching side of skiing and help pass on my knowledge, confidence, and love for the sport. To support that goal, I earned my NZSIA Level Two Instructor Certification this past 2025 season, giving me a strong technical foundation to coach and inspire the next generation of skiers.
I’ve never skied at Red Mountain before, so I’m really excited to explore the terrain and connect with new people through skiing. I’m really looking forward to coaching with the Team Giver Foundation this year and can’t wait to see the progression, energy, and stoke from the young groms in the Rossland community.
